Then you could repeat those notes on your piano simply from knowing the scale that they’re in.

2) Do the same with chords.

Chords are a combination of three or more notes that blend harmoniously when played together. Like scales, many exist in popular music. By familiarizing yourself with the most basic ones, you will start to hear them in some of your favorite songs as well. At some point, you’ll be able to listen to a song, name the chords, and then play them on your piano.

3) Play along with simple songs.

It’s a little disheartening to play along Beethoven when you’re just learning your scales and chords! That’s why we recommend that you play alongside simple songs first, instead. Simple songs are heavily based in rudimentary scales and chords, so they make great introductions to learning to play by ear. Playing alongside “Twinkle Twinkle Little Star” for example will help you master the C Major scale, but playing alongside Brahms’ Piano Concerto No. 1 will not! Playing alongside “Happy Birthday” can introduce you to simple chords as well, but playing alongside Gershwin’s “Piano Concerto in F” may send tears streaming down your face! Save the fancy stuff for later.

4) Don’t be afraid to stop and restart a song repeatedly to get it.

While attempting to play by ear, you’ll need to repeatedly listen to the song that you’re trying to emulate. Don’t be afraid or embarrassed to stop and restart a song at what may seem like.. every other note! Using this strategy, you’re simply training your ear. 5) Hum the tune as you’re trying to play the song.

Humming the melody of a song or even just a single note can help us capture the same on a piano. Since sound is vibration, humming helps us match the vibration that we hear on the piano. Try it!

Not unswerving what’s happening with me on this a given, but it seems like the more I listen to it, the better Natural Progressions gets. Natural Progressions stated solely is one of Bernie Leadon’s best CDs to date.

I wish it weren’t the case but, it’s not everyday that I get a CD from an artist that I can just pop in and comfortably listen to from beginning to end. There is usually a song or two that I just can’t force myself to get through. Not at all the case with Natural Progressions. Every track is enjoyable and was pretty easy for me to listen to from start to finish.

Bernie Leadon is one of those musicians that has the ability to just win you over with him talent. The kind of artist it’s really a treat to be able to listen to.

If you’re a Bernie Leadon fan this is a CD your collection flat cannot be without. In fact, this is one of those CDs that you don’t even have to be a fan of Leadon, or even Country to know is good. It’s just good music. Period.

While this entire CD is really very good the truly standout tunes are track 2 - How Can You Live Without Love?, track 7 - As Time Goes On, and track 10 - Glass Off.

To put the “Red Ring of Death” in perspective, imagine if over 30% of a particular model of television set suffered a breakdown that required you to return it to the manufacturer for repair. I’ve owned television sets for over 10 years and never had a problem. TV’s just seem to last forever these days. Imagine further that the television manufacturer had so much “confidence” in the reliability of their design that they decided to sell it with a whopping 90-day warranty period. Well, that was exactly the situation early XBox 360 purchasers were faced with and the 90 day warranty was Microsoft’s standard policy. That is up until the point that it became obvious that a major design flaw on the part of the X360 design team was the root cause of the problem. Only then did Microsoft relent and implement a full 2-year warranty for all XBox 360 purchasers. Note that this extended warranty covers the 3 red lights problem only. The standard 90-day warranty still applies to any other problems you experience.

So what is the 3 red lights problem all about? The front of the xBox console has a ring of 4 green lights that remain a steady green during normal operation. The 360 designers implemented a diagnostic system for different problems that relies on one or more of the green lights turning red and starting to blink on and off. So one red flashing light means one thing, two red flashing lights mean something else and three flashing red lights (by far the most common and serious situation) means that the xBox 360 has suffered from an internal hardware failure. In almost 100% of cases that hardware failure is caused by an overheating inside the Box. The cooling system for the 360 is basically a convective system where hot air that builds up during game play rises out of pre-drilled cooling holes in the GPU (general processing unit) and is replaced by cool air. It’s a very, very simple cooling system and not terribly efficient.

It’s surprising that the designers deciding NOT to install a fan inside the console (other than the power supply fan). This is particularly confusing since it was well known by them that the xBox 360 is actually a very powerful and very specialized computer. The outstanding graphics that gamers enjoy require a tremendous amount of computing power. This power translates into heat, and a lot of it. Pretty much any desktop, and most laptops, have some sort of fan based cooling system built in. Often the fan is for the power supply, but in some cases the fan system serves also to cool the hottest chips inside the computer, especially laptop computers which have amuch smaller footprint than desktops and are generally sealed up much tighter..
